The Kokomo Wildkats l ost in the sectional semifinals to NCC rival McCutcheon 62-41 and finished the season 7-17.

The Wildkats were playing short-handed due to injury, playing without their two leading scorers: senior Jackson Richards and junior Bobby Wonnell. The Kats played well in the first half and were tied at the end of the first and down seven at halftime. Ultimately the Kats ran out of gas in the second half. I was so proud of how hard our guys played!

Leading the way for Kokomo was senior Torian Smith, scoring 11 points and leading the Kats’ defensive effort with three steals. Senior R.J. Oglesby added eight points and senior Dashaun Coleman had a team high four assists.

I would like to thank all of our players, coaches and their families for everything this season. A high school basketball season is a very long season and requires a lot of time and transportation from our families. Our players and coaches have been fantastic to work with and I can’t thank them enough!

To our seniors Jackson, R.J., Torian, Drew Swain, Dashaun, P.J. Flowers, and Jon Callane: While it has not worked out on the scoreboard like we have hoped, I have really enjoyed coaching you and getting to know you and your families. You all are amazing young men with limitless potential and talent. Thank you for all you hard work, dedication and sacrifice for the Kokomo Boys Basketball program. I can’t wait to see all the wonderful things that you will do in the world!

Lastly to our fans, thank you so much for all your support this season. We went into this year not knowing if we would have a season and if so, if there would ever be fans at all at Memorial Gymnasium. Dr. Haswuald, Mrs. Blessing, and Mr. Sale have been absolutely amazing with their leadership, not only helping athletics go so smoothly during this COVID pandemic, but also ensuring we were at school every day where we all are so happy to be.

I am so grateful to have played this season. While we are down right now, I am excited to get back to work with these fantastic young men and work our way out of it. From all my years as a player and a coach, one thing that I have always found to be true is that you are never that far from being really good or really bad. While it might not seem like it now, our guys are and have been doing great things that soon will result in the Kokomo Wildkats Boys Basketball team being great again! Thanks for all your support!

Go Kats!
