The Kokomo Wildkats earned the runners-u p plaque this past weekend in the Southwood Invitational. Kokomo went 2 – 2 on the weekend, winning the first game over Southwood 22-25, 25-22, and 15-13. Next Kokomo faced Muncie Central; this time losing in three 22-25, 25-14, and 12 – 15. Third, Kokomo won a close match against Huntington North 18-25, 25-22, and 15-13. In the championship match of the day Kokomo lost the first set handily 11-25 but battled back in the second set 25- 21. The last set went 12- 15 but ended in a Goshen win. Throughout the weekend, Kokomo showed smart and scrappy play.
Malori Nichols earned Most Valuable Player on the weekend with 40 kills, six aces, and 40 digs. Brooke Hughes used her smart shots to earn 20 kills as well as nine digs. Abby Hansen followed with 18 kills and six blocks. Jannessa Reece tallied twelve kills, one block, one ace, and 39 digs throughout the day. Correll Heath also earned twelve kills, two blocks, five aces, 26 digs, and set 106 assists during the twelve sets played. Keihera Lang put a large block up in middle earning four blocks and ten kills. Jada-Claire Broomfield earned two kills, seven aces, 34 digs, and two blocks. Sarah Stonebraker and Jalynn Warden kept Kokomo offense hitting with 32 and 28 digs, respectively. Dani Tate added one ace and Mia Federspill added one dig to help the Lady Wildkats boost their play.
Kokomo has one last regular season match against Carmel on Thursday before heading to the NCC Tournament next Saturday.
