The Kokomo Lady Wildkats travelled to Chesterton for their first tournament of the season.
Coming off a two-hour drive, Kokomo started the tournament slow against Marquette Catholic losing 15 – 25 and 15 – 25. In the second match of the day, Kokomo won against John Adams 25 – 18 and 26 – 24.
After a lunch break, Kokomo came back rejuvenated and ready to play winning 25 – 21 and 25 – 17 against Hobart. With the last match of the day, Kokomo began to feel the long week prior and lost handily to Bishop Noll 15 – 25 and 12 – 25.
Malori Nichols led the offense with 25 kills on the tournament, eleven digs, and one ace. Jada Claire Broomfield followed closely with 20 kills and 18 digs throughout the day. Jannessa Reece added ten kills, two aces, and five digs to the Wildkat play. Abby Hansen tallied seven kills throughout the four matches, while Brooke Hughes added four kills and two aces. Setter Correll Heath contributed six kills, four aces, and 64 assists on Saturday. Sarah Stonebraker led the defensive play for Kokomo with 19 digs. Jalynn Warden added five digs, and Dani Tate added one dig to Kokomo’s defensive play. Victoria Stewart contributed her serving and Keihera Lang put up a big block in front of the opposing teams’ left side hitters.
