Spidell ran a tough, gutsy race and tried to mix it up with one of the best runners in the state, Hamilton Heights junior Maria Mitchell, who finished in 19:06. Julynne went out faster than normal to try and keep up with her and ended up running alone and trying to push the pace for the last two plus miles. I think this was a good experience for her and I think she has a lot to be proud of from the way she ran this race. I am confident in the way that she is progressing with her workouts and racing; she is right where she needs to be at this point in the season.
We had three other girls who put together solid individual races and showed a competitive instinct throughout. Junior Jaylee Copeland finished 26th with a time of 22:44, and the freshman duo of Kaileigh Jones, in 76th place in 25:51, and Emma Nelson, in 85th place in 26:34, all had a solid performances. We need these three to continue to cut significant time off through the last month of the season, and I am confident that they will.
