The boys tennis season came to an end against a very talented and strong West Lafayette program that is currently #18 in the state and entered regional play by knocking off #6 state ranked Harrison in their sectional final.
The boys lost by the score of 5-0, but played West Side closer this go around than in the regular season match up. The Kats won a total of eight more games and had better scores at four out of the five positions. West Side’s coach also spoke of the elevated play since the previous meeting.
Our closest match on the night was Ty Lauderbaugh’s 7-5, 6-4 match at #3 singles. Both doubles were also competitive with 6-4 sets. Play level was high and so was the boy’s fight and persistence. I am very proud of their effort!
The Kats finished with a record of 14-11. The records doesn’t sound that impressive but every loss came to teams that were district ranked or state ranked and only one of the 11 teams did not win their sectional. We have a very tough schedule and I am confident that is what sharpened us for post season play!
I am very proud of our seniors and we will miss them greatly. Jon Callane will go down as one of the top KHS all-time winners with 63 career wins to his name. This puts him sixth on the record board for all time wins! Way to go Jon! Taylor Duncan and Drew Swain are two other seniors that we will miss immensely.
Congrats guys and thanks to all who came out to support us this season!!!
