The Wildkats traveled to conference foe Lafay ette Jefferson to tangle with the Bronchos and played the most competitive match of the season thus far. After conceding a goal off of a corner kick in the first half, senior forward Paul Colmonares, Jr. knotted the match at 1-1 with his first goal as a Wildkat.
The Wildkats changed their lineup due to both injury and availability heading into this match once again and developed numerous chances to score in both halves. Junior midfielder and co-captain Kieran Morrison’s pinpoint passes set up numerous Wildkat attacks on the flank, and senior center back and co-captain Bryan Stoltzfus switched play several times to find open players in the attacking third.
But it was not to be. After ending regulation tied at 1-1, two overtime periods were not enough to settle the dispute, and both teams headed to penalty kicks. After Stoltzfus nailed the first Wildkat shot from the spot, the Bronchos connected on four straight PKs, and the Wildkats missed on their next two, ultimately losing 4-1.
The men of the match are Stoltzfus, who has continued to play solidly at center back and sophomore co-captain Joey McConnell, who registered 10 saves on the day. McConnell has registered 106 saves on the season thus far.
The Wildkats (0-6-0, 0-3-0) host Harrison Saturday morning, September 12th, for their fourth conference match of the season.
