The Wildkat runners competed in the Logansport sectional on Saturday and came away with a seventh place finish out of 11 squads with a score of 187. Western ran away with the meet as they won with a team score of 21. The Top 5 teams of Western, Eastern, Carroll, Northwestern, and Peru advanced their whole team to the Logansport Regional this upcoming Saturday.
While our team did not advance, we had two individuals advance in Collin Keesling and Bryan Stoltzfus. Neither runner had their best day, but they did what they needed to in order to earn a chance to compete in the regional. Collin placed 14th with a time of 18:25, while Bryan placed 24th with a time of 18:57. Despite not being at their best Saturday, both runners still have a shot to advance to the semi-state if they can rebound this upcoming weekend. We talked about where the struggles were on Saturday, and we are ready to tweak some things in order to have a better performance in the regional.
For the rest of the team I am very happy with how they competed this season and I believe we ended on a good note overall. Last year we were 10th place, so this year we improved a few spots as a team and going in we had a shot at a Top 5 team placement, but we had some things not go our way on Saturday which led us to our seventh place. The majority of the group will be back next season, so, with continued training, I think we can take that next step into being a team that can compete for higher spots and advancement in the postseason.
Please give your support to Bryan and Collin this week whenever you can, as they will be in a tough race at the regional on Saturday. They have worked hard all season and are deserving of this opportunity. They race at 11:15am at the Berry Patch of Logansport and we are expecting an exciting race. Thanks for your continued support of our runners this season. GO KATS!
