The Kokomo Wildkats opened the 2019-20 season with a 55-50 win over Howard County rival Western.
The Kats trailed 15-14 at the end of the first quarter but went into the locker room at halftime up 29-26. Kokomo led 41-35 at the end of the third and was able to pull out the first win of the season in front of an awesome crowd on Friday night at Memorial Gymnasium.
Leading the way for the Kats was junior Jackson Richards, scoring a career high 20 points, dishing out four assists and pulling down five rebounds. Sophomore Bobby Wonnell played a well-rounded game, scoring 11 points with four assists and four rebounds. Senior Savion Barrett scored eight points and had three steals, while junior R.J. Oglesby had six points and an equal number of rebounds. Junior Rajon Sellers added five points, and junior Torian Smith added five rebounds.
The Kats are back at it this Saturday when they battle Westfield! The JV game will start at 6:00 p.m. and the varsity will start at approximately 7:30.
One thing that STOOD OUT to the coaching staff and players was how awesome our student section and fans were tonight. We are going to need you again this weekend! Come out loud and proud and support your Kats!!
