The Kokomo High School Lady Kats wrapped up their North Central Conference schedule on Saturday with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over the Muncie Central Bearcats. More memorable than the score, however, was the display of sportsmanship that started the contest. Before the official start, the two teams honored an injured Muncie Central senior who tore her ACL last year. In a beautiful gesture, the game began with the Muncie senior being allowed to take the ball and score the first goal. In a remarkable show of solidarity and senior leadership, Kokomo goalkeeper Aiyana Cox took on a unique role, matching the score moments later with a goal of her own. This emotional moment, designed to honor the Bearcat senior, was the only goal of the half, highlighting Cox’s incredible commitment to both her team and the spirit of the game. Despite missing three starters, the Lady Kats struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, resulting in several missed shots and a high number of offside penalties that halted potential attacks. However, whatever was discussed at halftime worked. The Lady Kats reconvened and figured it out, connecting passes and working as a unit to create high-quality scoring chances in the second half. The offensive adjustments paid off as Euna Kim and Bailee Vasquez each buried a goal, securing the 3-1 victory and ensuring the Lady Kats closed out their conference season on a high note. The win demonstrated the team's ability to adapt under pressure and utilize its depth, a strength also highlighted by the recent successful season conclusion of the JV team. Many Lady Kat's earned vital varsity minutes that helps set the stage for future success. The Lady Kats now turn their focus to the highly anticipated Senior Night celebration. They will host the Maconaquah Lady Braves at home on Thursday, October 2, for their regular season finale. The event will be a special opportunity for the Kokomo community to honor the five dedicated seniors who have shown commitment and leadership throughout the program. Let's pack the stands to celebrate our seniors and cheer on the team as they head into the sectional tournament!
