It was a day of positives and negatives as the Kokomo Wildkats dropped a conference match to Anderson by a score of 4-1. Although the Kats stayed compact defensively and played well for most of the match, they were not able to capitalize on the chances they created early and suffered another conference loss. In a mostly even match, individual errors cost the Kats. The first goal conceded occurred when one Anderson attacker beat four defenders and slotted home the first goal of the game. Later in the first half, the Kats were caught napping and an Anderson attacker poked in a loose ball in the penalty area for a 2-0 lead. Later in the first half, senior midfielder Luca Bulgueroni won the ball and played a nice through ball to junior forward Joe Kanyinda. Kanyinda lost his mark and beat the keeper in a one versus one to cut the lead in half. Unfortunately, the Kats conceded and own goal off an Anderson corner to end the half at 3-1. After an Anderson attacker stole the ball from a Wildkat back, he raced toward the goal and slotted home the fourth and final goal of the day. Although the Kats had both momentum and opportunities, costly errors resulted in the setback. In the junior varsity match, the Kats were the better team for most of match, but ended with a 1-1 draw. The Kats defended well, stayed compact, and created several chances but were unlucky not to score in the first half. In the second half, the Kats conceded a free kick, but fought back and created more chances. In the last minute, sophomore forward Darious Easton pressured their defender, won the ball, and slotted it pass the keeper to salvage the tie. The Wildkats host conference for Marion for Senior Night on Tuesday, September 23. The junior varsity match kicks off at 6 pm. Senior Night recognition begins after the junior varsity match, and the varsity match kicks off after the recognition concludes.
