The Kokomo Lady Kats traveled to Anderson on Saturday morning for a conference matchup and returned home with another strong win. The first half saw Kokomo creating plenty of opportunities with multiple shots on goal, but the team struggled to find the back of the net. Despite starting off a bit tired, the Lady Kats regrouped at halftime and came out energized and ready to play. Early in the second half, Gisella Herrera broke through the Anderson defense, scoring to relieve the pressure and give Kokomo the lead. Shortly after, goalie Aiyona Cox stepped out of the net and delivered a perfectly placed assist to Herrera, who finished for her second goal of the day. In the midfield, Mattie Rayl and Euna Kim worked relentlessly, winning balls and distributing to Patience Rowles and Herrera up top. Kameya McClatchey, Bailee Vazquez, and Ashley Corrales are doing an outstanding job as outside midfielders, showing determination and continued growth every game. The defensive line stood strong as well. With Izzy Riggs back from injury and anchoring alongside Elaina Gibson, the Lady Kats held firm. Isla Duncan and Karla Giler provided grit and tenacity in the back, playing the full match with intensity. Everyone who was on the sidelines earned varsity minutes, making it a complete team win. Ariah Witherspoon, Ashanti Jackson, and Taraji Pollard each earned their first varsity minutes, while Bella Steel held strong in goal during the second half, coming up with several vital saves to secure the shutout. It was a true team effort, with every player contributing and continuing to show growth, determination, and teamwork as the Lady Kats move deeper into conference play. The Lady Kats travel to Lapel and Muncie Central next week and hope to continue their winning momentum.
