The Kokomo High School girls cross-country team competed Saturday at the Wildcat Classic hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University. Racing in the highly competitive big-school division, the Lady Kats faced several top-ranked teams and standout athletes from across the state. Sophomore Alaina Thompson led the way for Kokomo with a time of 21:40, while senior Macy Rakestraw had a breakthrough day, setting a new personal record of 24:28. Seniors Morgan Rakestraw and Gretchen Riggle, along with junior Makyila Rubush, rounded out the scoring effort for the team. While Kokomo’s team placing wasn’t among the front-runners, the experience provided a valuable test against elite competition. The athletes showed progress and resilience, highlighted by Thompson’s strong finish and Macy Rakestraw’s PR. The Lady Kats will return to action this upcoming Saturday at the Flashrock Invitational, held at Northview Church in Carmel, where they’ll look to continue building momentum.
