Boys Tennis: Kokomo vs Mount Vernon (4 - 1) Win Caleb Taflinger- W 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 Micah Taflinger- W 6-0, 6-1 Mitch McClelland- W 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 Blake/Mayfield- L 6-0, 6-4 Moos/McClain- W 7-5, 6-3 Great team win today. Mt Vernon is a new opponent; they were well coached, had three really good seniors, and were good at all 5 points. They are a top 3 team in their district. We were really tested at each position. Our #2 doubles team didn't start great, but stayed gritty and finished with really good tennis and won in straiggt sets. Those guys are coming together really well. Mt Vernon #1 doubles was the best we have seen all year. Those two seniors have a great chance to advance to state. Kats #1 doubles didn't play bad at all, but was overmatched to start. Then they adjusted and played a great 2nd set. Mitch battled through an up and down match to win in three sets. Micah was very dominant. Caleb had the longest match and played a talented player. He was a senior, left-handed, and big hitter. There was a lot of ups and downs and Caleb stayed level and consistent. The 2nd set went to a tiebreaker that Caleb lost 8-6. The match was decided by the time they got to the 3rd set, and Caleb won in a 3rd set tiebreaker 10-8. Mentally, Caleb rose up, stayed focused and fought through adversity.
