Bearcats Pounce on Wildkats in Conference Opener, Win 4-0

The Kokomo Wildkats hosted conference foe Muncie Central and lost to the visitors 4-0 Saturday. In the first ten minutes, Kokomo was on the front foot, possessing the ball in the Bearcat half of the field, but it was Muncie Central that got on the board first when a forward was taken down in the box resulting in a penalty kick and a 1-0 lead with 25 minutes left in the first half. The match was still close, and back and forth, when the Bearcats scored a second goal after a cross into the Wildkat box was not cleared. The Kats nearly got one back just before half on the efforts of junior forward Adam Sarota and sophomore forward Nico Lubcke. In the second half, Kokomo looked to continue pressing but gave up two goals in the fourth and fifth minutes off of set pieces. On the second free kick, a Wildkat player was ejected, and Kokomo had to play with ten men for the duration of the match. Though the they played valiantly, the Kats were not able to create much of an attack while playing short-handed. They did, however, shut out the Bearcats the rest of the way. Your man of the match is junior midfielder Enzo Beber Zamberlan. The Wildkats (1-1-1, 0-1-0) travel to non-conference foe Lebanon Tuesday evening before concluding the week with a visit to Oak Hill on Saturday. Junior Varsity The junior varsity team earned its first victory of the season, defeating the Bearcats 2-1. Junior forward Jadon Colescott’s corner was knocked in by a Bearcat defender for a 1-0 lead, and sophomore Manny Clark broke through the defense moments later to double the lead. The Bearcats did get one goal back, but the Wildkats hung on to open conference play with a 2-1 win.
