Varsity Softball Wins a Pair of Games Over the Weekend to Secure the NCC Conference Championship Lucy Goad collected four hits in four at bats, as Kokomo Varsity Wildkats defeated Marion Varsity Giants 11-1 on Saturday at Kokomo High School. Goad tripled in the second inning, singled in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the sixth inning. Kokomo Varsity Wildkats got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Marion Varsity Giants dropped a third strike, and Lanaya Buckner singled to center field, each scoring one run. Kokomo Varsity Wildkats added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Goad singled, scoring two runs, and Addison Taylor grounded out, scoring one run. Goad earned the win for Kokomo Varsity Wildkats. The pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out four and walking three. Aly Earnest took the loss for Marion Varsity Giants. The pitcher went five innings, giving up 11 runs (six earned) on 11 hits, striking out four and walking five. Kinley Martin appeared in relief for Kokomo Varsity Wildkats. Kokomo Varsity Wildkats piled up 11 hits in the game. Emma Lees, Hattie Tweed, and Goad each drove in two runs for Kokomo Varsity Wildkats. Amirah Marciniak collected two hits for Kokomo Varsity Wildkats in three at bats. Spencer Martin led Kokomo Varsity Wildkats with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting five walks for the game. In game two, Kokomo Varsity Wildkats scored 11 runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat Anderson Varsity Indians 11-1 on Saturday at Kokomo High School. Emma Lees hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs, Alaina Thompson tripled, scoring three runs, Spencer Martin doubled, scoring one run, Lanaya Buckner singled, scoring one run, Lees singled, scoring one run, Amirah Marciniak tripled, scoring one run, Kinley Martin doubled, scoring one run, and Lucy Goad singled, scoring one run. Lees earned the win for Kokomo Varsity Wildkats. The pitcher surrendered three hits and one run over five innings, striking out seven and walking three. Linzi Harney took the loss for Anderson Varsity Indians. The starter went five innings, giving up 11 runs on 10 hits, striking out two and walking five. Kokomo Varsity Wildkats tallied 10 hits in the game. Buckner, Martin, and Lees each collected two hits for Kokomo Varsity Wildkats. Lees and Thompson each drove in three runs for Kokomo Varsity Wildkats. Hattie Tweed led Kokomo Varsity Wildkats with two walks.
