We are very proud of our Wildkat Girls Track and Field Team for placing 3rd with 76 points at the NCC championships on Friday night as Richmond took the top honors. Overall the girls came to compete as the meet was close until the last few events. Our team scored early and often as first year pole vaulter Ja'Layia Williams won the conference championship. Tia Williams had a good series of jumps to place 2nd in the long jump and first year shot putter, Mia Hancock, who actually started the season as our manager, placed 7th in her first year of competition. As the running events started, the 4 x 800 relay team of Jimenia Meir, Morgan Rakestraw, Gretchen Riggle, and Christina Durham ran in a PR time placing 4th. Jhazlyn McKay raced a spectacular 100 meter hurdles race to improve her school record to 14.82 while Giyanna Thorton brought in a close 2nd. Jhazlyn then turned around and earned 2nd in the 100 meters while Eliana Stewart placed 9th. In the 1600, Morgan and Gretchen ran times that were their personal bests. The 4 x 100 team of Thorton, Huntsman, T Williams and McKay ran a season best placing 2nd. Tia Williams and Nevaeh Wilson ran season bests in the 400 meters placing 3rd and 6th. Giyanna handedly won the 300 Hurdles as she set a new school record in a time of 45.58. Eliana placed 4th in the high jump while over at discus, Kiera Harmon was throwing well placing 9th. Ja'Layia Williams and Christina Durham both ran strong races to set personal bests in the 800 meters. Kokomo is happy to host the end of the season JV meet on Friday night starting at 5:00 with 5 teams competing. A big thank you to all our parents who provided refreshments, hardworking coaches who have dedicated themselves to teach and mentor, and to our super girls team who cheered enthusiastically to support their teammates throughout the evening.
