Varsity vs Western High School (110 - 84) Win Wednesday was a great day to be a Kat. Our Unified Track & Field team showed up ready to compete at the Western Invitational and walked away with a first-place finish and 110 points. What stood out more than the scoreboard was how we did it—together, across every event, with grit, focus, and a whole lot of heart. Long Jump We got off to a strong start in the field. Braedyn Booker jumped 16’0.25” to win his flight, and MJ McColl landed a 15’6.25” jump for 4th. Ellie Neuhauser (11’7”) and Izzy Sargent (6’8”) added more points with solid marks. The rest of our crew kept the runway busy: Devon Lee (12’6”), Dylan Snodgrass (11’4”), Donovan Davis (9’10”), Isabella Boyance (10’11.25”), Joseph Randolph (10’8”), Joshua Smith (9’9”), and Aiden Sargent (12’11.5”), who took 2nd in his flight with one of the top exhibition jumps of the day. Great energy in this group all day. Shot Put Hayze Herron led us in the ring with a 35’1” throw for 6th. Austin Jewell (26’6”), Ethan Lee (24’0”), and Aubreanna Fitts (21’10”) each added to the scoring column. Our exhibition throwers were locked in, too: Elmer Barber (26’0.5”), Claire Rowe (14’9.5”), Lily Ausbrook (13’2”), and Kaitlyn Haverkamp (10’0”) all stepped in and competed well. 100 Meter Dash The 100M crew came out flying. MJ McColl tied for 3rd overall with a time of 12.85, while Karsen Huffman ran 13.44 to take 2nd in his own heat. In another heat, Braedyn Booker (13.02) and Gage Meyers (13.22) pushed each other all the way through, both turning in strong races. We had consistent performances throughout: Joshua Smith (14.21), Dylan Snodgrass (14.25), Ethan Lytle (14.33), Hayden Humbarger (14.54), Austin Jewell (14.74), Donovan Davis (14.75), and Aiden Sargent (13.71), who looked smooth in his heat and turned in one of his best races this season. Heat winners included Macy Rakestraw, who crossed the line first in her race with a time of 17.06, and Annabella Steele, who took her heat in 17.17. Brayley Rayl (16.69) also won her heat, showing great drive through the finish. The rest of the crew kept it rolling: Lucas Frederick (15.09), Ellie Neuhauser (16.19), Gracia Yang (16.63), Amelia Van Horn (17.36), Adilyne Driver (19.14), Isabella Sargent (18.85), Rylee Smith (20.38), and Claire Rowe (26.17). That’s what depth looks like—lane after lane, we showed up. 400 Meter Dash Devon Lee led the 400 group with a strong second-place finish at 1:05.10. Justin Smith (1:06.77), Ethan Lytle (1:09.25), and Joey Randolph (1:15.63) all ran composed, well-paced races that kept the momentum going. Big Frank made his 400M debut and showed exactly why he’s someone we can count on. He dug deep and finished in 1:41.37—a strong first showing in one of the toughest races on the track. Gage Meyers (1:09.45), Amelia Van Horn (1:29.21), and Gracia Yang (1:29.60) rounded out the event with focused, steady laps. 4x100 Meter Relay The boys’ relay squad of MJ McColl, Justin Smith, Braedyn Booker, and Karsen Huffman came through clutch, taking 1st place in their race with a time of 52.38. Clean handoffs and strong leg work across the board made the difference. The exhibition team of Joshua Smith, Elmer Barber, Dylan Snodgrass, and Donovan Davis, ran 57.18, one of their best relay times of the season. The girls’ team—Ellie Neuhauser, Claire Rowe, Maddie Armstrong, and Isabella Boyance—earned 4th place with a time of 1:13.09. They were just shy of breaking their own Unified Girls Relay school record. Final Takeaway Every point mattered. Every race, jump, and throw added to the whole. And every athlete—whether scoring or not—brought something to this win. That’s what makes this group special. As coaches, we are very proud of how we competed, how we supported each other, and how we represented KHS.
