Kokomo Relays athletic department meet officials organize the very best organized event. Everything professional cared for and the weather was superb. A joy to honor 25 former Kokomo Track and Field athletes spanning seven decades during the meet Kokomo girl team placed 4th/9 teams, our best performance in ten years. We scored in 10 of the 14 events. Elaina Stewart 6th in 100 meters with PR Jhaz McKay 1st in 100 hurdles with a school record of 15.07. It was a great honor to have former record holder in the 300 hurdles and 100 hurdles Maggie Scheiman and her family meet our hurdlers and witness the record day for Jhaz and Giyanna Our hurdle coaches Joni Neer and Justin Pugh are doing outstanding work with our boys and girls hurdlers. Jhaz was named the Walter Cross outstanding female athlete of the meet. Justin Pugh also received this distinguished award as a hurdler and sprinter in 2006. Giyanna Thorton 2nd in 100 hurdles. GREAT FRESHMAN TALENT WHO HAS ACCOMPLISHED SO MUCH IN DEVELOPING HER RACING SKILLS. 2400 meter relay-6th 1200 meter sprint medley- 6th 4x100 relay- 3rd Shuttle Hurdle relay- 2nd 3000 meter DMR- 6th High Jump- Eliana Stewart- 8th place Pole Vault- JaLayia Williams- 6th Long Jump- Tia Williams- 3rd place with a season best 16'3 Akeira Huntsman jumped for the first time this season and make finals. She has improved significantly and Coach Bryon Woods is doing a great job preparing our jumpers. In preparation for conference and the state tournament the coaching staff is pleased with the development of our competitive attitudes during meets and our training is sharper. Our team support system is improving as we commit to look out for one another. A great example at the Kokomo Relays was Jaila Russell volunteering to race a 400 meter leg of the sprint medley. A few weeks ago she would not have felt the imperative team nature of stepping up, but she has now, just as many of our athletes are much more willing to sacrifice for the team's success.
