Relay Results Aubrey Simmons, Morgan Rakestraw, Maddie Armstrong, and Milla Hawkins started the day for the Lady Katfish with an 8th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Later in the meet, the relay team of Maddie Armstrong, Giyanna Thornton, Bethany Burns, and Alyssa Frederick dropped over 3 seconds to finish 7th in the 200 Free Relay (1:55.98). Our final relay team, made of Aubrey Simmons, Morgan Rakestraw, Alyssa Frederick, and Milla Hawkins dropped over 4 seconds off their preliminary time to place 4th in the 400 Free Relay (3:52.17). Individual Results Senior Aubrey Simmons led the Katfish, placing 2nd in the 50 Freestyle (23.85) in addition to making the state cut time. Aubrey earned the #1 seed in the 100 Backstroke at prelims, so she was able to bask in the moment hearing her song, “The Best of Both Worlds” by Hannah Montana play as her finals heat approached the starting blocks. Then Simmons accomplished something no one has seen in quite some time at a Carmel Girls Swim Sectional… She won 1st place in the 100 Backstroke (55.39) and punched her ticket to the state finals! Aubrey Simmons will compete in the IHSAA Girls State Swimming Finals at IUPUI for the fourth time in four years on Friday February 14th. Senior Milla Hawkins swam great on Saturday, earning a 9th place finish in the 100 Free (57.21) and a 12th place finish in the 100 Breaststroke (1:18.42). Junior Morgan Rakestraw earned a PR and moved up a spot to finish 10th in the 200 IM (2:27.96) & 11th in the 100 Fly (1:08.97). Sophomore Alyssa Frederick earned two PRs on the day, first in the 200 Free (2:12.13) & then again (dropping 8 seconds) in the 500 Free (5:48.58). Junior Maddie Armstrong earned a 12th place finish in the 200 IM (2:34.16). I’m incredibly proud of all our girls and how everyone pushed themselves both mentally and physically this season. Swimming is a brutal winter sport and not for the weak, so I commend anyone with the will to stick it out and excel! Overall, the Lady Katfish finished as a team in 5th place scoring 154 points. Milla & Aubrey, it’s been an absolute pleasure to coach you two since 8th grade and throughout your high school years! Your leadership, resilience, sense of humor, and standard of excellence will be missed day to day. I wish you both nothing but the best in your future endeavors. You will always be a Katfish, thank you for adding to our legacy! Proud to be a Katfish! -Coach Whiteman
