Saturday morning the Katfish traveled to Lafayette Jefferson High School to compete in the annual North Central Conference Swim Meet. After almost a month without a meet and a practice-filled winter break, the Katfish were ready to see their hard work pay off! Our girls team finished in 2nd place, while scoring 262 points, claiming the top spot in 8/11 swimming events (6 individual, 2 relays). The boys squad finished in 5th place, scoring 166 points, reaching the podium numerous times throughout the day. Top girls relay performances include: Aubrey Simmons, Morgan Rakestraw, Maddie Armstrong, and Milla Hawkins placed 1st in the 200 Medley Relay (1:59.65). Aubrey Simmons, Morgan Rakestraw, Alyssa Frederick, and Milla Hawkins placed 1st in the 200 Free Relay (1:48.50). Maddie Armstrong, Giyanna Thornton, Bethany Burns, and Alyssa Frederick placed 3rd in the 400 Free Relay (4:34.06). Top girls individual performers include: Quadruple winners: Aubrey Simmons in the 50 Free (24.12) & 100 Free (51.62), while breaking the NCC Meet Record in both events & Morgan Rakestraw in the 200 IM (2:30.82) and 100 Butterfly (1:08.55). Triple winner Milla Hawkins in the 100 Breaststroke (1:19.13) and a Second place finish in the 100 Freestyle (58.55). Double winner Maddie Armstrong in the 100 Backstroke (1:13.96) and a second place finish in the 200 IM (2:33.57). Alyssa Frederick earned two second place finishes in the 200 Freestyle (2:15.14) and 500 Freestyle (6:01.97). Bethany Burns placed 4th in the 50 Free (31.12) and 7th in the 100 Free (1:11.23), and Giyanna Thornton placed 6th in the 50 Free (32.02). I’m so incredibly proud of our performance on Saturday afternoon, we swam exceptionally well all around! We had some excellent swims with plenty of time drops across the board and athletes pushing themselves to the brink. Each swimmer had a goal going into the meet, and we were able to knock those off one-by-one all meet long! I’m excited to see how our team handles this busy two-week stretch of meets & practices. The Katfish are back at it at home on Tuesday, January 14th, senior night, vs. Lewis Cass!
