On Saturday the Kats raced in the Logansport sectional and came away with a runner-up finish. It was the Kats best finish at the sectional since 2013 and the first time they have advanced to regionals as a team since 2017. The guys raced well despite 3 of our 7 guys being under the weather. Despite the obstacle all seven boys did their best and our four healthy guys really stepped up to help get us our runner up finish. We were led by Cooper Cage who finished 8th overall for the Kats. Cooper has been dealing with an illness, so he did not place as high as he normally would have, but he gutted it out for the team and still did well despite his circumstances. Our next two boys in were Connor Frederick(10th) and Preston Arreola(14th). These two guys had a great day, Connor ran a PR of 17:07. Having three guys in the top 20 was important for us as we competed for that second place finish. Our usual number four runner is Ben Wallace, but he was also under the weather and did not have his normal good race, but freshman Reece Wright ran the best race of the season and became our number four runner. Reece ran a PR time 18:24 and finished in 26th place. His performance cemented our placing on Saturday and assured us of advancing as a team to the regional. Freshman Leo Serra, who was also not 100%, and senior Gabe Newland had solid races and really pushed past other runners the last 400 meters to make sure no other team could catch us. I am proud of these guys for working hard and rising above their less than ideal circumstances on Saturday to advance us to the regionals. These guys have been working hard since June, with their goal to go as a team to the regionals. Now we can turn our attention to Saturday, as we will compete in the Brownsburg regional at 11:15am. Our boys are going to be racing to try to advance to the state meet. If you can wish the guys good luck this week, as we continue to work and prepare for the biggest race of our season this upcoming weekend. Go Kats! Coach Ousley
