Thompson, Riggle, & Rakestraw advance to Regionals

On Saturday the Lady Kats competed in the Logansport Sectional and came away with a 6th place finish. The Kats were projected to finish 9th or 10th place, but with great racing by the whole team we came one spot away from advancing to the regional as a team. Even though we fell short as a team we had three ladies qualify for the Brownsburg regional. Freshman Alaina Thompson, junior Gretchen Riggle, and junior Morgan Rakestraw all qualified for the regionals with great performance on Saturday. Alaina Thompson led the way with a 18th place finish overall with a PR time of of 22:18. Alaina has had a great freshman campaign and she continues to get better every week. She put herself in position early to make the regional and she maintained that throughout the race. Next in for the Kats was Gretchen Riggle as she placed 34th overall with a PR time of 23:28. Gretchen has been racing well the last month, but she put it all together on Saturday, as she dropped a 63 second PR in the sectionals. Gretchen went out aggressive and was able to get in great position that allowed her to punch her ticket to the regional. Morgan Rakestraw was our last qualifier as she placed 41st with a time of 24:00. Morgan went out aggressive, but had to hold on to advance to the regional, as she made it by two seconds, just edging out her competition for the final spot to the regional. Also for the girls junior Christina Durham just missed making regionals by three spots, as she ran a PR of 24:30, but her performance, as well as those of Allaina Helmberger, Claire Callane, and Taylor Belzer helped our team place 6th overall and surprise a lot of people with the end result. I am proud of these girls for their hard work and success this season. We aren't quite done, as Alaina, Gretchen, and Morgan will compete this Saturday in the Brownsburg regional. Race time is 10:30am, as they race in the final meet before state! If you see them wish the girls good luck. Go Kats!! Coach Ousley
