Kats Race to 3rd at NCC

On Saturday the Kats raced in the NCC championships at IWU and placed 3rd out of the 6 conference teams. We were down our 5th man due to illness, but the Kats raced well and still came within one point of being runner up. For the Kats junior Cooper Cage led us with a runner up finish in the individual race just missing first place by five seconds. Cooper ran a smart race and separated himself from the other runners after the second mile and almost tracked down the lead runner, but ran out of room. Cooper earned himself all-NCC honors with his performance, which go to the top 8 runners in the field. Also earning all-NCC honors was Preston Arreola who placed 8th overall with a PR time of 17:12. Preston ran a great race and had to fight for his 8th place by out racing another kid the last 300 meters of the race. Coming in right behind Preston was senior Connor Frederick who placed 10th with a PR time of 17:19. Having three runners in the top 10 was big for our team score since we were down a runner today. After Connor we had Ben Wallace, Leo Serra, & Gabe Newland rounding out our varsity Kats today. Gabe ran a great race as he set a PR with a time of of 19:51. Up next for the Kats is an off week, as we do not race this weekend. We will next race on October 19th at Logansport in the IHSAA Sectional. The boys have worked hard all season and have their sights set on advancing to the regional as a team this season. We will take the next two weeks to work on some things, as well as get rested both mentally and physically. We hope to see you at Logansport cheering on the Kats in the sectional on October 19th. Go Kats!! Coach Ousley
