The Kokomo Wildkats finished off their home schedule this fall, handing the Lebanon Tigers a loss and in the process extended their unbeaten streak to five matches. The Wildkats defeated the visitors by a score of 3-0 in a match dominated by the Wildkats’ possession. Although the Wildkats dominated possession, they once again started slowly in front of goal. The Tiger's keeper turned away several good shots by the Wildkats, none more dangerous than junior forward Arthur Barbosa’s laser from the right side of the penalty area which was parried just over the bar of the goal. In the second half of play, the Wildkats continued to dominate possession, and broke through the Tigers back line several times, but it was not until there were 26 minutes left in the game that senior midfielder Henrique Alvarenga De Oliveira dribbled through three defenders on the left side of Lebanon’s defense and slotted home the first goal that the Wildkats took the lead. Twelve minutes later, junior midfielder Adrian Reyes slotted the ball wide to senior midfielder and captain Benjamin Herrera, who finished a nice goal from the left side of the penalty area into the far post. Just four minutes later, senior winger Gui Baldinu beat his mark and sent a curler in the left side netting of the Tiger goal past the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper to finish off the scoring. Defensively, Esteban Diaz and Juan Toscano organized the back line well from their center back positions, and the Kats’ keeper, Alan Lopez, recorded four saves in Wildkats’ 11th win of the season and third by shutout. Your man of the match is senior midfielder Henrique Alvarenga De Oliviera. The Wildkats (11-2-1, 5-0-0) have one final away match versus Carroll next Tuesday for their final varsity match of the regular season before sectionals begin at Harrison the week of October 7. Thank you to our senior class this year for a memorable season filled with fantastic goals and highly enthusiastic bus rides! Our seniors include: Ben Herrera, Phawat Muannara, Rylan Early, Juan Toscano, Guilherme Baldinu, Henrique Alvarenga De Oliveira, Javier Carrera, Khoi Van, and Jedaiah Beard. In the junior varsity match, the Wildkats created several chances but went into halftime up only 1-0 on sophomore Gael Cordero’s strike from the left side of the penalty area. Unfortunately, the Wildkats could not find the second goal, and the Tigers would not go away, and they equalized with two minutes left to earn the tie on the road. The Wildkats (5-4-3, 4-1-0) conclude their best season since 2015 and have a solid foundation to build on for next year. The man of the match is sophomore Hudson Kalkstein.
