Lady Kats Race at IWU

On Saturday the Lady Kats competed in the Wildcat Classic at IWU. The Kats placed 13 out of 16 teams, but competed well despite being down our number two runner. The Lady Kats raced well and executed their race plans just how we asked them too. Freshman Alaina Thompson continues to shine as she placed 27th overall with a PR time of 22:52. Alaina is continuing to learn and develop all while improving each and every meet. Our other major story is the emergence of fellow freshman Allaina Helmberger who raced in her first varsity race and dropped 3 minutes and 32 seconds of her previous PR as she raced to a time of 25:29. She ran a great race and exceeded our expectations of her on Saturday. She did a nice job of letting the race come to her and showed some real potential for the future. Along with those two girls we had Gretchen Riggle, Christina Durham, and Claire Callane who all raced well even though they didn't set a PR. We are entering the part of the season where now we focus on race strategy more and beating people we need to beat. I am happy with how all five girls race on Saturday and ready to see where they go from here. Our next race will be Saturday as we participate in the Tipton Invitational at Tipton High School. Come support the Kats if you can. Go Kats! Coach Ousley
