The Wildkats raced on "The Farm" at Taylor University on Saturday and placed 9th out of 18 teams. Out of our 16 runners 15 of them had either a personal best or season best. It was overall a good day for the Kats as we raced against great competition and the guys had to step their game up. Leading the way for the Kats was Cooper Cage, as he raced to a 17:15 which is a season best for him. Cooper continues to work his way back from an injury, but he is making great strides each week. Following him were Connor Frederick and Preston Arreola, as both guys had solid races and came in pretty close to one another and Connor set another PR running a 17:49. Junior Ben Wallace was our 4th man in, as he set a new PR with a time of 18:34. Ben is making improvements each week and we are hopeful he will continue to progress, as the season goes on. Our 5th runners was freshman Reece Wright, who was making his 5k debut after sitting out last week with an ankle injury. Reece ran a 20:09, which is great for a first time and he moved up quite a bit during his race. Freshman Leo Serra and senior Gabe Newland rounded out our varsity, as Leo set a new PR of 20:28 and Gabe set a season best of 20:49. Freshman Owen Downing was our 8th man Saturday, as he set a big PR with a time of 21:47. In our top 8 we had 3 freshman, which is a great thing for our program. I am happy with how our guys raced and how they showing progress each week. We had a tough week of training this past week with the heat and humidity, but they guys didn't complain and worked through the challenging week. We are looking forward to better this week, as we prepare for the Brownsburg Invite on Saturday. This will be a good opportunity for them to race there against some of the top competition in the state on this course. Race time is 9:15am for our guys, so we hope to see you there! Go Kats!!
