The Kokomo Wildkats visited conference foe Muncie Central and defeated the hosts 6-1 Saturday. In the first fifteen minutes, each team looked for ways to penetrate and create opportunities, but it was Kokomo that got on the board first when junior Andre Gomes scored an absolute screamer from outside the right corner of the penalty area after the Bearcats failed to clear a Wildkat corner kick. Five minutes later, senior Henrique Alvagrenga De Oliveira beat his mark on the left side of the MC defense and slotted home a second goal for 2-0 lead twenty minutes into the match. With just under 10 minutes left in the first half, the Bearcats scored a free kick from just outside the penalty area to cut the Wildkat lead in half, but they would get no closer. In the second half, Kokomo wore down Muncie Central with their possession and indirect play. Muncie Central did not get a shot off in the second half, and the Wildkats scored at will. Senior center back Juan Toscano headed senior captain Ben Herrera’s corner kick into the goal at the far post twenty minutes into the half. Three minutes later, senior Javier Carrera tapped in a ball which the Bearcat keeper could not cleanly handle. Seven minutes later, Carerra centered a pass to Herrera who scored in the lower left corner from the top of the box, and in the last minute of the match, junior striker Arthur Barbosa blasted home the final tally of the day when he scored from outside the penalty area when the Bearcats once again failed to clear a corner kick out of their box. The Wildkats out possessed the Bearcats in the second half and created many opportunities. Junior Alan Lopez recorded one save. On the season, Carrera (5 goals, 1 assist), Herrera (4 goals, 4 assists), and Barbosa (4 goals, 1 assist) lead a dangerous and balanced Wildkat attack. The Wildkats (3-1-0, 1-0-0) host non-conference foe Lebanon Tuesday evening. Your man of the match is senior Juan Toscano. Junior Varsity The junior varsity team earned its first victory of the season, defeating the Bearcats 1-0. Sophomores Ethan Landrum and KJ Lorenz combined for the shutout. When the Bearcat keeper parried freshman Andy McConnell’s shot, sophomore Braedyn Booker finished the rebound for the deciding goal. Booker now has two goals on the season.
