On Saturday the Lady Kats raced in the Jacob Graf Invite at Logansport High School. The Kats placed 10th out of 13 teams in their race. This is our sectional course and we faced good competition, while also battling a course that can be challenging in places. The girls gave great effort and had some solid performance. We were led on Saturday by freshman Alaina Thompson and junior Morgan Rakestraw. Both girls ran good races and finished right after each other with Alaina finishing in 24:12 and Morgan setting a PR with a time of 24:17. Rounding out the Kats in the varsity race were Gretchen Riggle, Christina Durham, & Claire Callane. Morgan, Gretchen, & Christina all ran this race last season and all 3 showed growth as they improved on their time from last season. I am excited to see this girls continue to race this season and show growth from last season. The girls JV team also competed and did well, as they placed 4th in the scored JV race. This was the first 5k for most of them and on a challenging course at that. Freshman Addie Taylor secured a top 15 ribbon as she placed 12th with a time of 29:30 to lead the Kats while fellow freshman Allaina Helmberger came in 16th place with a time 30:47. Our other girls also did a nice job of overcoming the warmer temperatures and hilly course. I am proud of them for accepting the challenge and doing their best. Our next race will be next Saturday as we travel to Taylor University to race in the Taylor University Invite. Hope to see you there! Go Kats! Coach Ousley
