Lady Kats Soccer Fall to Western In Season Opener

The Lady Kats played their season opener against Western Saturday night and came up short. They gave it their all and played to the buzzer, but we still have a lot of work to do and come together as a team. After graduating 8 starters, we will need to make adjustments to learn to play together. Offensively, Layla Brehm, Iris Brehm, Gisela Herrera, and Isabel Boyance played their hearts out. Iris Brehm found the net late in the game off a pass from her sister Layla. This showed grit and gave us a peek into what this season could bring if we learn to work together. Our midfielders gave it their all as well. Nancy Laughner and Liliana Taskey made a huge impact both offensively and defensively. Nancy Laughner stepped up and played 4 different positions. She was ready for wherever she was needed with 100 percent effort. Gisella Herrera, Elaina Gibson, and Destiny Forestal are going to be major contributors this season on defense. They played with tenacity and the confidence needed to lead our defense. Isabella Riggs is our freshman who rose to the challenge and played the entire game. Aiyona Cox had her debut in goal and had outstanding saves. She has been working hard in the off-season learning a new position and we are excited to watch her command the net this season. Tonight’s loss stings and is evidence that when players do not put the work in together during the off-season, they will have a rough start. There were moments of greatness and the potential of this team is huge. When we can learn to consistently play together and for each other, this team will achieve great things. We are ready to put in the work. We are back on the pitch Wednesday at Oak Hill. Let’s go, Lady Kats! Coach Rayl
