Unified Kats: Season Ends but Plenty to Celebrate.

Though they finished fifth and fell short of advancing to Regionals, the day was filled with incredible performances. Field Events In the shot put, senior Terrion Wilson wrapped up his high school career with one of his best throws, hitting 38’1”. Ethan Lee secured sixth place in his flight with a 36’5” throw. Senior Lakyn Williams ended her season on a high note, placing fifth in her flight with a personal best of 13’5”. Katy Haverkamp also shined, delivering a season-best throw of 11’9” to claim fourth in her flight. In the long jump, MJ McColl and Braedyn Booker placed fifth and sixth in their flight with jumps of 17’3.75” and 16’2.25” respectively. Seniors Dishita Sood and Ellie Neuhauser both placed seventh in their respective flights. Track Events The track events were where the Kats truly came to life. Karsen Huffman tied his season best in the 100-meter dash, seizing first place and becoming Sectional Champion for his heat with a time of 12.86 seconds. Joshua Smith kept the momentum going, becoming Sectional Champion in his heat with a personal best time of 14.54 seconds. In a nail-biting finish, Rakestraw claimed third place in her heat with a personal best time of 16.22 seconds, just 0.01 seconds shy of tying for first. In one of the tightest heats of the day, the first heat of the 400-meter dash, senior Des McDonald finished his senior year with a stellar 55.38 run, holding off Western and ending as Sectional Champion for his heat. Senior Andrew Gear finished his season with a solid sixth-place finish, clocking his second-best time at 1:02.13. Justin Smith finished his first Unified Track season with a solid fifth-place finish and one of his best times of the season at 1:07.51. Senior Mara Tackett battled it out the last 200 meters, capturing fourth place with a time of 1:20.31, ending her Unified Track season with a strong performance. The girls' 4x100-meter relay team—comprising Albany Farmer, Madison Armstrong, Lizzie Hunter, and Ellie Neuhauser—put on a remarkable show, finishing second in their heat and breaking the team record with a time of 1:11.41. In their last race together, the boys' 4x100-meter relay team of MJ McColl, Des McDonald, Karsen Huffman, and Andrew Barker capped their season with a new team record of 47.48, finishing as Sectional Champions. Despite not moving on to Regionals, the Kats' efforts in West Lafayette highlighted their dedication and talent, setting the stage for future successes and leaving a lasting impression of their remarkable season.
