Unified Kats Finish 3rd at The Western Unified Invitational

Kokomo (104) vs Western (117), Hamilton Heights (105), Logansport (81), Tiwn Lakes (75), West Lafayette (73) Last night, the Western Unified Invitational was lit up by the Unified Kats, as they secured a commendable 3rd place overall! With the sun beaming down and temperatures a comfortable mid-70s, it was a far cry from the chilly conditions of last year. Let's dive into the highlights of the event: In the track events, Justin Smith emerged as a standout, seizing 2nd place in his 400-meter heat with a personal best of 1:06.24. Mara Tackett also shone, achieving her season's best at 1:18.8. Not to be outdone, Erik Carter thrilled his fans by smashing his personal record and ran a 1:37, with a little boost from Des McDonald. Adding to the excitement, Devon Lee and Hayden Humbarger dashed into the 400, clinching 2nd and 3rd places respectively with impressive times of 1:06 and 1:14. Switching gears to the shot put, the Kats flexed their muscles. Andrew Barker led the charge, obliterating his own record with a phenomenal throw of 51’2.5in, securing the top spot in his flight. Ethan Lee with 26'5 and Ryan Gilliam with 28'10 showcased their skills with personal bests, while newcomer Rylee Smith made a bold debut with an impressive throw of 13'7. In the long jump, the Kats soared to new heights! Braedyn Booker soared to a personal record of 17’2, claiming 3rd place in his flight. Josh Smith leapt to 2nd place with his personal best of 7'7, while Donovan Davis stole the show with a jaw-dropping jump, 10'10 beating his personal best by 3 feet, and securing victory in his flight. And the excitement didn't stop there! In the relays, the Kats continued to impress. The Boys 4x100M team blazed ahead, setting a new record with a lightning-fast time of 48.82. The Coed team of Gisella Herrera, Braedyn Booker, Justin Smith and Josh Smith narrowly missed the record, while the 4x200M team of Bella Steele, Adi Driver, Justin Smith and Josh Smith put on a solid performance. Overall, it was a night of triumph and excitement for the Unified Kats, showcasing their talent and determination in every event.
