Varsity vs McCutcheon Loss Our Kats dropped a pair of games on a weekend double header at McCutcheon. McCutcheon, being one of the top ranked teams in Indiana, played a good pair of games. Last night gave us an opportunity to understand what is needed for sectionals as well as opportunity to see some younger talent produce. Isaac Flamino took the mound against a tough opponent in Sammy Swank and outlasted Swant 4 innings to 3. Flamino allowed four hits and three earned runs while giving up five walks and dealing five strikeouts. Freshman Miles Cunningham was thrown into the fire in a 4-1 ballgame against a hard hitting team and had two near perfect innings before some hard hit balls and defensive errors put us out of the game. Great outing by both arms! Offensively it was tough to get things going Chad Washburn and David Conner had a hit a piece for the Kats. In game 2, out pitching had a hard time out of the gate with a shining moment closing out the battle by David Conner with 2.2 innings pitched giving up one hit and no earned runs, while walking three and striking out two. Offensively, freshman Miles Cunningham broke up the no hitter with his first varsity hit and JJ Gillespie had a double late in the game. Closing out conference play with the exception of one game to Marion on May 8, I feel this team can compete with anyone in our conference rolling into sectionals. We have a lot of baseball left and a lot to learn.
