Boys Swimming 2024 Sectional Prelims Thursday night the Katfish traveled to Carmel High School to compete in the preliminary round of the IHSAA Boys Swim Sectional. Our boys team, consisting of several rookie swimmers, approached sectionals with the mindset of doing your best regardless of those around you… last night the Katfish showed up and did just that! Swimming in such a competitive meet is a great experience; and we were able to consistently drop times with many PRs and season best times. Top Relay Results The Katfish started out strong with the 200 Medley Relay, the team of Hayden Moore, Oliver Taskey, Isaac Flamino, and Bryce Brassard dropped 4.04 seconds off their PR, earning an 8th place finish with a time of 1:58.70. Keeping the momentum going; Talon Hawkins, Kyrii Minor-Thornton, Bryce Brassard, and Isaac Flamino placed 8th in the 200 Freestyle Relay, cutting 1.15 seconds off their entry time to secure another 8th place finish for Katfish (1:43.55). Our final relay of the night, the 400 Freestyle Relay of Oliver Taskey, Hayden Moore, Ethan Landrum, and Talon Hawkins, managed to drop 6.89 seconds off their entry time securing a 9th place finish (4:10.62). Top Individual Results Junior, Isaac Flamino will be swimming in the consolation heat for his two individual events during sectional finals on Saturday. Flamino is seeded 15th in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 23.84 and seeded 10th in the 100 Fly with a time of 57.03. Despite Flamino’s work ethic in the pool day-to-day, the kid is an athlete and managed to pull out a few great swims on pure athleticism… kudos to him! I’m incredibly proud of our boys and how they competed, had some solid races and significant time drops! Ethan Lytle started off the night for us, dropping 7.47 seconds off his 200 Freestyle (2:30.03); Micah Taflinger dropped an incredible 16.43 seconds in the 200 IM (2:51.01), Oliver Taskey dropped 10.49 seconds off his IM time as well (2:38.60); Jose Callvio dropped 4.86 seconds in the 100 Fly (1:15.02); Dylan Snodgrass cut 1.54 seconds in the 100 Freestyle (1:04.59); and we had massive time drops by both 500 Free swimmers Hayden Moore (6:40.18) and Ethan Lytle (7:03.08). It’s so fulfilling to see all the time and effort the boys have put in to pay off at sectionals. Let’s keep this momentum going into next season and into Sectional Finals on Saturday with our relay teams and Isaac Flamino! Go Katfish! - Coach Whiteman
