Swimming (Girls Scores

Girls (93 - 87) Loss Tuesday night the Katfish traveled North to take on the Lewis Cass Kings in a dual meet for the ages. The Katfish came out with a new energy, as many athletes were not participating in their primary events but trying something new. We had excellent swims all around and placed first in 8/11 swimming events, but diving would prove to be the difference as the Katfish fell to the Kings 93 - 87. First place finishes include: Quadruple winners Milla Hawkins (200 Medley Relay, 100 Free, 100 Breaststroke, 200 Free Relay), Aubrey Simmons (200 Medley Relay, 50 Free, 100 Backstroke , 200 Free Relay); Triple winner Morgan Rakestraw (200 Medley Relay, 200 Free, 200 Free Relay); Double winner Alyssa Frederick (500 Free, 200 Free Relay); and Maddie Armstrong with a first place finish as part of the 200 Medley Relay. We knew going into this meet that it was going to be an absolute dog fight! Lewis Cass is a good team and has depth, in addition to having divers… we knew we’d be down a few points from the start. But the Katfish kept fighting, pushing, and went into the final event of the night all tied up at 83-83. Despite our best effort, and Maddie Armstrong’s ridiculous relay split, Cass touched the wall first (4:35.97 - 4:36.22). Exciting meets like this are what swimming is all about, the energy is unlike anything else. We’re leaving with tons of positives to take home but we still have some work to do before sectionals. A lot of things to be excited about for these young Katfish, I’m proud of their performance tonight! The Katfish are back in action Thursday at home against Oak Hill for Senior night at 6pm! Go Katfish! - Coach Whiteman
