Girls (109 - 53) Win vs. Rochester Girls (111 - 45) Win vs. Logansport Saturday morning the Katfish traveled to Rochester, Indiana to take on the Rochester Zebras and Logansport Berries as part of a double-dual swim meet. After a tough loss to both teams last season (5 points each), the Katfish were hungry for revenge… and boy did they eat today! Ferociously, the Katfish swam to 10 of 11 first place finishes, not including diving. But even more impressively, in 9 of the 11 races the Katfish finished in first AND second place! This dominant performance secured two wins today for the Katfish; a 109 - 53 win vs. Rochester, and a 111 - 45 win vs. Logansport. First place finishes include: Quadruple winners Milla Hawkins (200 Medley Relay, 100 Free, 100 Breaststroke, 400 Free Relay), Aubrey Simmons (200 Medley Relay, 100 Fly, 100 Backstroke , 400 Free Relay), Alyssa Frederick (200 Free, 500 Free, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay); Triple winner Morgan Rakestraw (200 Medley Relay, 200 IM, 200 Free Relay); Double winner Maddie Armstrong (200 Medley Relay, 400 Free Relay); and Taylor Belzer and Matilda Stout with a win as part of the 200 Free Relay. We missed out on winning a close meet with these teams last season, so I was eager to see how we’d respond this year. I spent a good amount of time piecing together a scouting report; everyone had a goal time and a job to do… and today they picked up their briefcase and went to work. Solid performances all around with several first-place finishes, but the big difference was our depth today. Second place victories won us the meet, simple as that! We had TWO- second place relay finishes: 200 Medley Relay (Matilda Stout, Izzy DeWeese, Grace Lake, Mikaia Buckner) and 400 Free Relay (Taylor Belzer, Mikaia Buckner, Grace Lake, Izzy DeWeese), and SEVEN individual second place finishes from Taylor Belzer, Maddie Armstrong, Matilda Stout, Grace Lake, and Morgan Rakestraw. The Katfish are back in the practice pool for a few weeks, then headed to the North Central Conference Meet at Purdue University on January 6th. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!
