Varsity vs Northwestern (108 - 72) Win Monday night the Katfish hosted their cross-county rival Northwestern Tigers. Eager to avenge last season’s defeat, the Katfish came out hungry & looking to race. Depth would prove to be the difference, as the mighty Katfish defeated a small (and under the weather) Tiger squad 108 - 72. First place finishes include: Quadruple winners Milla Hawkins (200 Medley Relay, 100 Free, 100 Breaststroke, 400 Free Relay), Aubrey Simmons (200 Medley Relay, 100 Fly, 100 Backstroke , 400 Free Relay); Triple winner Alyssa Frederick (200 Free, 500 Free, 400 Free Relay); Double winner Maddie Armstrong (200 Medley Relay, 400 Free Relay); and Morgan Rakestraw with a win as part of the 200 Medley Relay. Northwestern has a good swim program, they’re well disciplined and have an experienced coach in Donita Walters… I know this to be true, as I swam on her teams (co-coached with Mark Schelbert & Jay Glick) at Kokomo from 2009-2011. I’m lucky to have the opportunity to coach head-to-head against a former coach of my own, and when we’re able to come out victorious, it only makes it all the sweeter. We had a great scouting report and our team was able to go out and execute in winning the numbers game all night long. It’s not always about finishing first, but simply doing your job! For example, Frederick, Belzer, and Stout went 1, 3, 4 in the 200 Freestyle; Rakestraw, DeWeese, and Buckner 2, 3, 4 finish in the 50 Freestyle; Simmons, Rakestraw, Hall 1, 2, 4 in the 100 Fly; Hawkins, Stout, DeWeese 1, 3, 4 in the 100 Free; Frederick, Armstrong, Torres Nunez 1, 2, 4 in the 500 Freestyle; and Hawkins, Lake, Cothern 1, 3, 4 in the 100 Breaststroke… all points matter. Overall, very proud of our girls and how they raced, many came down to the wire! Katfish are back on the road Saturday, headed to Rochester for a double-dual meet with Rochester & Logansport. Go Katfish! - Coach Whiteman
