Lady Kats Compete at Regionals

By Jordan Ousley | Oct 26, 2026 7:14 AM

On Saturday the Lady Kats wrapped up their season as they placed 23rd at the Brownsburg Regional. This capped of a great season for our runners, as they got to compete in the regional as a team for the first time in nineteen years. The Kats did not disappoint as they raced and competed to the best of their ability against the best in the state. Junior Alaina Thompson has been our number one all season and she had her best race of the season, as she placed 43rd overall in a time of 19:26. Her time was only one second off of the school record and she just missed qualifying for the state meet by four spots. Alaina has battled low iron levels over the last month of the season, but she has stayed mentally focused and literally gave it her all on Saturday. I am proud of her for her performance on Saturday, as well as the whole season. Teammates Izzy Riggs and Maggie Weber also had good races on Saturday. Izzy dropped 29 seconds as she ran a new PR of 22:18. Izzy has had a great first season for us and we are excited about her potential as she continues with the sport. Maggie had a season best time of 24:10 on Saturday. She joined the team late, but she has improved every week for us in her performance. We are excited to have her for the upcoming track season and next cross-country season as well. Allaina Helmberger and Naomi Black also raced in their first regionals and competed well for us. This was a good experience for these two and we are excited about their growth moving forward. Bethany Burns was our sixth runner Saturday and with the end of the season marks the end of Wildkat cross-country career. Bethany has exhibited a great work ethic and attitude during her time with us and we will miss her moving forward, but wish her best of luck in her next stage. As this season ends we begin to look toward the next steps for our team. We will move on to track season and then get ready for next cross-country season. We return our top 5 runners and have a promising group of incoming middle school athletes. The future is promising for the Lady Kats! Thank you for all your support this season. Go Kats!
