On Saturday the Kokomo Wildkats broke a 19 year drought and advanced to the Brownsburg Regional as team as they finished in 5th place! The Kats all ran a great race and improved upon their projections in order to make it to the regional. This is something that has been both the girls and mine goal, since taking over the program 5 years ago. They have worked to get to this point and I am proud of them for sticking with it and achieving our main goal for this season. Leading the Kats was junior Alaina Thompson who continues to have a great season as she placed runner up in the sectional with a time of 20:06, which is a 40 second improvement on this course from when she ran it in August. Alaina has been focused and has had great training sessions leading into the tournament despite dealing with some setbacks. She is looking forward to regionals and trying to improve her placing from last season. After Alaina was teammate Izzy Riggs who ran a PR time of 22:47 and placed 17th overall. Izzy is new to cross-country this year, but her work ethic and attitude have been a blessing to our team and I am proud of her for advancing to regionals in her first season. After Izzy we had teammates Maggie Weber, Naomi Black, Allaina Helmberger, & Bethany Burns all come in one right after the other which allowed us to get the lower score we needed to advance as a team. It took all 6 girls to make it happen, but they did it and took the next step for our program. The girls race at 10:30 this Saturday in the Brownsburg Regional. Go Kats!! Coach Ousley
