Lady Kats Show Grit and Heart in Sectional Opener Against Lafayette Jeff

By Elizabeth Rayl | Oct 8, 2026 6:00 AM

The Lady Kats kicked off sectional play at Harrison on Wednesday evening, taking on the Lafayette Jeff Lady Broncos in a hard-fought postseason battle. The match opened with a quick strike from Lafayette Jeff, who managed to find the back of the net in the opening minute. Rather than letting the early setback rattle them, the Lady Kats responded with immediate intensity, digging in and fighting fiercely for every single possession. Gisella Herrera set the tone up front with her relentless, aggressive offensive play and inspiring leadership, constantly pushing the attack and keeping her teammates motivated. Despite a tough first half that saw the Lady Broncos build a 3-0 lead, Kokomo headed into the break with their heads held high, anchored by Herrera's steady presence, Matttie Rayl’s agressive play, and relentless defensive efforts from Izzy Riggs, Karla Giler, and Elaina Gibson. Refusing to back down, the Lady Kats brought even greater aggression and energy to the second half. Bailee Vazquez stepped up on the wing, tirelessly drilling the sideline up and down the pitch. In the midfield, Mattie Rayl took control of the tempo, orchestrating play with crisp, precise passing, while Isla Duncan showed incredible adaptability by stepping into a new position. The squad's depth shone through as several freshmen played with remarkable courage when called upon. While the final 5-0 scoreline wasn't the outcome the team worked for, the Lady Kats left everything on the field, competing with pride until the final whistle. Congratulations on a fantastic season, ladies! Your growth, grit, and unwavering determination all year long have made your school and coaches extremely proud.
