Kokomo Beats Seeger 4-1 Micah Taflinger, W 7-6(3), 6-1 Mateus Boechat Luppi Ruiz, L 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 Mitch McClelland, W 6-2, 6-0 Josiyah Mayfield/Austin Moos, W 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 Carter McClain/Oliver Taskey, W 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 Kokomo wins back-to-back Regional Championships. We got off to a slow start, but finished really well. Seeger was tough, competitive and had lots of seniors. We just started slow tonight and we really haven't done that all year. Like usual, Mitch was on fire and won his match quickly for that first point. He is just on another level this month! After all the first sets we were down 3-2. We had multiple turning points- 1st- Micah was down 5-4 in the first set and if he lost we would have lost 4 of the 5 first sets. He fought to even things up, won in a tiebreaker and then won the next 6 of 7 games. His energy and fight really sparked us as a team. 2nd- #2 doubles really struggled early and then Carter said I'm tired of playing this way and did something about it. He literally took over the match and started dominating. They won 12 of the last 14 games they played. It was so cool for them to be the third and deciding point. 3rd- Seeger just couldn't put that first point on the scoreboard. Our guys refused to lose in straight sets. Mateus fought back and #1 dubs really flipped a switch too. We would never make excuses, but Austin is really fighting through an injury from Tuesday night. It takes away the athleticism he uses so well, but he refuses to let it affect him and just wills their team to keep fighting. Jo really played well the last two sets too. Overall, after the 1st sets were complete, we won 7 of the last 8 sets. That is who we are! We are built for endurance, ready to grind, and never give up. This is a special group. It is much harder to repeat last year's success under high expectations than it was to break through the wall the first time. This group rose to the challenge, put in the work, and never took a step backwards all year. I’m so proud of the perseverance they have built!
