The Lady Kats wrapped up their regular season schedule on Thursday night with an emphatic road victory, riding an explosive second half and pure competitive will to power past the Maconaquah Lady Braves 5-2. The match opened with non-stop, high-intensity play as both squads battled for control through the middle. Maconaquah drew first blood, breaking the ice with a goal 20 minutes into the opening period. Refusing to let the momentum stay with the home team, the Lady Kats responded immediately, turning up the offensive pressure and peppering the Lady Braves' goal with shots. The persistence paid off with seven minutes remaining in the half when Karla Giler delivered a crisp pass to Ana De Fazio, who muscled the ball into the net on sheer determination to draw the Kats even at 1-1 heading into the break. Carrying a wave of momentum out of halftime, the Kats struck almost instantly. Less than 60 seconds into the second period, De Fazio struck again off an assist from Mattie Rayl to put Kokomo on top 2-1. The Kats never looked back. Shortly after, Rayl capped off her own strong offensive run by finding the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-1. While Maconaquah managed to pull one back with 20 minutes to play, the Lady Kats quickly extinguished any comeback hopes. Gisella Herrera provided the final dagger, grinding out a high-effort goal to seal the 5-2 triumph and send the squad into the postseason on a high note. With the regular season officially in the books, the Lady Kats shift their focus to postseason play. They kick off Sectionals on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 7:00 PM, when they face off against Lafayette Jeff at Harrison High School.
