In a season of close finishes, the Kokomo Wildkats once again came up short, dropping a tough 4-3 match to the Carol Cougars. The hosts drew first, capitalizing on a Wildkat error to make it 1-0. Senior midfielder, Gael Cordero, who won the ball, distributed the ball, and fought the ball in the middle of the park, scored to equalize later in the first half. Though the Kats dominated play, the Cougars made the most of their limited opportunities in front of the goal, and took a 2-1 lead into halftime. The Wildkats outshot the Cougars, and had most of the attack in the Cougar defending half of the field for most of the first half. Senior Ethan Landrum came up big on saves. In the second half, the cats conceded twice more, but Cordero’s penalty kick and Senior Braedyn Booker’s tally made it close. Down 4-3 with a few minutes remaining, the Kats put a flurry of serves and shots into the Cougar area, but were not able to secure the game tying goal. The Kats finish out the regular season on Saturday at Logansport before they open sectional play next Thursday at McCutcheon High School when they play Lebanon in a rematch.
