The Kokomo Wildkats visited Anderson Saturday in conference play, and the Kats failed to take advantage of good opportunities; the Indians, however, did not. The Kats played really well between the boxes, building attack, maintaining possession, and frustrating the Indians’ attack. However, they did not create many chances. After the Indians scored from a long-range shot halfway through the first half to take a 1-0 lead, the Kats failed to put a shot off the crossbar into the net. It would have tied the game at 1-1. Later in the first half, the Indians scored from the left side of the box to double their lead. The Kats went in at the half down 2-0, but were still playing well. After the half, the Kats created a few more chances, but it was the Indians who once more notched a goal after capitalizing on a Wildkat error on the right side of the penalty area. The Indians scored the final goal when the Kats turned the ball over in their defensive third. The Kats fell to the Indians 4-0. Your man of the match is Senior midfielder Gael Cordero whose distribution was excellent from the holding midfielder spot. In the junior varsity match, the Kats played tough. Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Escutia Mondragon made a few critical saves, and the Kats took a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Indians tied it up, but junior Javieer Gordon scored a nifty free kick with under 10 minutes to take the lead, 2-1. The Kats held on for the 2-1 win. The Kats have to regroup quickly. They travel to Marion for the final conference match of the season and then go to perennial power Harrison on Wednesday. They close the week by hosting Lebanon.
