The Wildkats squared off with the Marion Giants for the 2nd time this season on Friday night in the sectional semifinals. The Kats had never beaten Marion in the IHSAA tournament in football. The game started out as a defensive battle and a battle of field position. We were finally able to overcome that battle and break through for a score with about 7 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter. We then proceed to score 2 more times before half time to break open the game and go up on Marion 21-0 at halftime. We never looked back and only gave up 7 first downs to the Giants and only around 100 total yards. We finished off the night with a running clock and a 35-0 win. Offensively we were led by Darrian Story Jr. He had 20 carries for 182 and 3 touchdowns. He averaged 9.1 yards per carry. Reis was a very efficient 8-9 passing for 84 yards and a touchdown to Andrew Barker. Our offensive line played well and as a unit and we had a very selfless attitude which led to 5 offensive touchdowns for us Friday night. Defensively we were led by Khairi Floyd with 9 tackles and Reis Beard with 8 tackles. As a group we totaled 8 tackles for a loss. Friday was the best team defense we have played in a long time. It helped us record our 2nd shut out of the season. This week the Kats will play for a Sectional Championship at Mississinewa High School in Gas City. Kick off will be at 7 pm and we look to bring home back to back sectional 20 championships. Thank you for the support Friday. We will see you this week on the road. Go Kats.
