Kokomo Defeats Richmond in Conference Play

Your Kokomo Wildkats tangled with the Richmond Red Devils this past weekend and came away with their first win and first conference win of the 2026 season by a score of 1-0. In a first half where both teams created some chances, it was not until the early minutes of the second half that the Wildkats took control of the match. That's when senior midfielder Gael Cordero beat his mark just outside the box on the left side, and slotted a nifty pass to senior striker, Jaden Colescott who beat the keeper at the near post with a nicely finished shot. The Kats held their 1-0 lead but were unable to convert several other opportunities in the half. Cordero also hit the crossbar on a free kick moments later in the half. The Red Devil defense thwarted several Wildkat attacks. However, senior keeper and captain, Ethan Landrum, along with a stout back line, kept the Red Devils out of the scoring column, and out of the goal, sealing the first victory for the season. Even though the Kats have only won one game, they have held five of their seven opponents to two goals or less, so defensively they're doing a really nice job this season. In the junior varsity game, the Wildcats throttled the visitors by a score of 7-1, led by junior wing Samuel Lucania Fortunato's hat-trick and freshmen Derek Palmeros, Vallejo and Jonathan Torrez Alvarado's braces. The junior varsity team remains undefeated on the season and have conceded only twice all season long. The varsity team hopes to continue its winning ways this Tuesday, when they host McCutcheon, in non-conference play, and both teams host Lafayette Jeff on Thursday night in conference play, which is also the Senior Night game.
