On Saturday the Lady Kats raced in the Jacob Graf Invite. This is a challenging first 5k of the season for us as we race against strong teams we will see again in the sectional and conference. The Kats finished 8th out of 13 complete teams, which is an improvement from last year. We were led by junior Alaina Thompson who finished 4th overall with a PR time of 20:45. Alaina ran a smart and controlled race and had an overall great day to kick off her 5k season. After winning her race on Tuesday to turn around and race like she did on Saturday was great and she continues to show growth and perseverance in every race. Teammate Izzy Riggs was next in as she competed in her first cross-country 5k with a time of 24:39. Izzy is new to the sport but she is coachable and is working hard to improve each week. Other runners include Allaina Helmberger, Bethany Burns, Makyila Rubush, Alice Cooper, & Emmie Sargent. This was a good reminder to our girls how a 5k race feels and now we have a great starting point, as we continue in the season. We race next this Saturday in the Taylor University Invite at 9am.
