The Kokomo High School Lady Kats soccer team officially kicked off their season on Saturday against Western. While the match didn't end in a win, the team delivered a performance of relentless energy, grit, and distinct moments of greatness on the pitch. Kokomo came out charging with a strong first half, controlling early momentum and pressing Western's defense. The hard work paid off in impressive fashion when Mattie Rayl launched a powerful strike on goal. After the Western goalkeeper spilled the initial save, Anna Defazio reacted instantly, pouncing on the rebound to find the back of the net and put the Lady Kats on the board. As the match progressed, Western managed to capitalize on a our small mistakes to take control of the scoreboard. Despite the shift, Kokomo never backed down. The squad battled through early-game nerves, fought for every 50/50 ball, and competed with pride right up to the final whistle. With the first-game jitters now behind them, the Lady Kats remain focused on growth and momentum. The team will travel to Oak Hill this Wednesday, excited to keep improving and moving forward together.
