The Lady Kats traveled to Anderson on Saturday for the last conference game of the season. They sputtered out the gate and struggled to get traction on a wet field. They settled in and took control by possessing the ball and playing solid defense. Ellen Callane scored in the first 90 seconds after our defense stopped their opening run. Iris Brehm scored off a goal post-deflection from Riley Rudolph. Layla Brehm had a stellar assist with a cross to Callane, who found the net. The attack and possession of the ball continued when Gisella Herrera assisted Callane, making it 4-0. Herrera continued controlling the middle and had an assist from Iris Brehm. Offensively, the team controlled the game, and Callane logged her 4th goal for the day. Iris Brehm made a great run and another goal. Analis Fuentes earned a hard-fought goal off an assist by Nancy Laughner. The defense played so well that Maddie Carpenter only had to make five saves. Riley Rudolph had an exceptional game, leading the defense and contributing to the scores with quality corner kicks. It was wonderful to see our starters cheering from the bench for most of the second half as our young players earned a lot of varsity minutes. Girls played passionately, trying to get specific teammates to score. Herrera scored late in the second half to make it 9-0, and the game was over with a mercy rule. This well-earned victory continued our four-game winning streak and completed our regular season play. The Lady Kats are excited to get back to work on Monday preparing for sectional play on Thursday against McCutcheon.
