The Lady Kats traveled to Muncie Central and earned a conference win and shut out with the score of 6-0. They set the tone early by controlling possession in the first half, and several good combinations by the midfield and forwards kept the Bearcats on their heels. We stuck to the fundamentals of the game, and this was a total team win. Ellen Callane had her second hat trick of the season to celebrate her 18th birthday. We continue to get better together each game. Offensively, we are passing better and have good ball movement up front. Nancy Laughner played tough and assisted Callane for an early score. Layla Brehm's quickness and grit created another scorning opportunity for Callane, who had a great shot after a perfect run. The Lady Kats continued the attack with another goal by Callane with an assist from Elaina Gibson, who dominated the game in the middle. The Lady Kats wore the Bearcats down in the second half and found the net several times to run away with it. Layla Brehm also gave 110% effort up front and took a brutal foul in the box, earning her a penalty shot. She showed mental toughness when she had a perfectly placed penalty kick goal after the foul. Iris Brehm received a masterful through ball from Lillian Taskey for her fast-break goal. She kept poised under pressure with a perfect shot to the corner just out of the keeper's reach. The 6th and final goal came off a great combination play, with Patience Rowles, Maria Escalona, and Iris Brehm finishing the play with a beautiful goal in the corner. The defense worked together to shut out Muncie's offense. Maddie Carpenter earned a shutout with ten saves in the goal. Riley Rudolph, Lyrik Barbour, Darriuna Kirby, and Laikyn McDorman played tough and unified on defense. Indiria Faison, Analis Fuentes, Nancy Laughner, Lillian Taskey, Elaina Gibson locked down the middle and contributed both offensively and defensively. It was a great overall team win, as EVERY player got varsity minutes today. The all-around effort, toughness, and everyone playing defense led to the shutout! The Lady Kats play their last home game on Thursday against Maconaquah High School. Then they travel to Anderson on Saturday to finish the regular season. Let's go Lady Kats!
