Team Scores Kokomo - 126, Bedford North Lawrence - 118, Fishers - 116, Carmel - 91, Franklin Central - 90, Hamilton South Eastern - 87, McCutcheon - 84, Pendleton Heights -73 The Unified Kats walked into the Jim Brown Invitational at Fishers High School knowing it was going to take a full team effort to compete with some of the best programs in the state. That’s exactly what they gave. Kokomo battled its way to the team title with 126 points, and the story of the night was growth. Personal records. Team records. Athletes stepping into pressure moments. And event groups stacking points from start to finish. The long jump crew got things rolling early and absolutely delivered, piling up 27 team points. Izzy Sargent, Aaron Cruz, and Carter McClain each finished 2nd in their respective flights, while Ellie Neuhauser added to the score with a 7th-place. Cruz had one of the biggest moments of the night, nearly adding two feet to his personal best. After being seeded last entering the meet, he fought his way all the way to a runner-up finish. The shot put crew answered with another huge scoring effort, adding 23 more points for the Kats. Hayden Humbarger continued his outstanding season with a personal best throw of 30’7.75” to win his flight. Joseph Lowery followed with a 3rd-place finish, Ethan Lee added a personal best while taking 5th, and Austin Jewell rounded things out with an 8th-place finish. Then came the sprints. Addie Driver placed 3rd in the 100m, Brooklyn Smith finished 7th, and Josh Smith took 4th in his heat. Donovan Davis delivered one of the gutsiest races of the day, battling through a photo finish to take 2nd place in 14.40 after scoring corrections were finalized. Altogether, the 100m crew added 24 points to the team total. The 400m guys absolutely put on a show. Ethan Lytle opened things up with a season-best performance and teamed with Aaron Cruz, who tied his personal best, to go 1-2 in their heat. Joseph Randolph followed by setting a new personal record and winning his section. Then Carter McClain closed the event in style, running a personal-best 55.71 and outkicking a Fishers athlete down the stretch for the win. By the end of the event, the 400m crew alone had piled up 38 points for Kokomo. The relays finished the night exactly how this team has competed all season: together. The boys 4x100 relay of Josh Smith, Hayden Humbarger, Austin Jewell, and Hutch Munsey placed 4th while running a season-best time. The girls 4x100 squad stepped onto the track against a strong Fishers relay team and answered with one of the best races for the Kats, finishing 2nd while Maddie Armstrong, Brooklyn Smith, Ellie Nuehauser, and Addi Cline broke the Unified Kats team record in 1:03.84. Fourteen more points. At this point in the season, the results matter. But what stands out even more is how this team competes for each other. Personal records are turning into team points. Athletes are gaining confidence. And every week, someone new steps up in a big moment. One event at a time. One meet at a time.
